Curious if support networks matter?
We’ve Been There

On Screen:

Joey
Moderate to Severe Crohn’s Disease Patient

Joey:
Having the support from a gastroenterologist or doctor that you can trust is very important. Having a network that supports you is a vital piece to have, you know, when you’re dealing with things you have to overcome on the path to get to remission.

On Screen:

Mark
Moderate to Severe Crohn’s Disease Patient

Mark:
All my friends, who are extremely supportive…I don’t know if I’d be able to get through it without them.

On Screen:

Sarah
Moderate to Severe Ulcerative Colitis Patient

Sarah:

My best friends and my family, my support system...I wanted to be there for them. They are big motivators. I want to get healthy—not only for myself, but for the people that supported me over the years.

On Screen:

Jim
Moderate to Severe Ulcerative Colitis Patient

Jim:
I wanted to keep fighting, staying positive, and it was great to have a supporting cast like my wife, family, and friends that helped me through that process.

Interviewer (from off screen):
How did your loved ones help you get to the next step with your disease?

Sarah:
They definitely were there to listen to the concerns that I had, and just kind of hold my hand through the entire process, going through different medications, or trying new medications.

On Screen:

Celeste
Moderate to Severe Crohn’s Disease Patient

Celeste:
My care team did a great job motivating me when I felt like I couldn’t go on anymore, to find the right solution for my Crohn’s disease.

Mark:
They really motivated me to go see my doctor. To ask questions when I was either being stubborn or procrastinating, or assuming that everything was going to be okay.

Joey:
There was always a time where one of my direct family members were with me when I needed it. That really got me through and kept me fighting through what I had to, to get better.

On Screen:

Lauren
Moderate to Severe Crohn’s Disease Patient

Lauren:
I’m very close to my mom, and she’s a researcher, so she was definitely on top of, you know, have you looked into the medications? What are the pros and cons? What are the side effects?

On Screen:

Melissa
Moderate to Severe Crohn’s Disease Patient

Interviewer (from off screen):
Did your supporters motivate you to get your symptoms under control?

Melissa:
I definitely wanted to get my symptoms under control so I could spend better quality time with my parents and help them understand that I appreciate everything that they’ve done for me.

Mark:
Managing my Crohn’s disease wasn’t just about me. There are tons of friends and family involved that you have to, you know, think about, too.

Celeste:
There are people who are rooting for you, there are people who want you to get better and get that help. You just have to find them.
