Considering Treatment Video Transcript

[LESLIE]
My original diagnosis was for moderate HS back when I very first was diagnosed and unfortunately for myself, as time went on, it did progress into severe. I knew it was time for a massive change.

[MARCUS]
HUMIRA became a part of the conversation once I started to see other people have positive results with it online in the HS community.

[LESLIE]
My dermatologist felt that we had checked the boxes.

[MARCUS]
I did consider all the pros and cons with taking HUMIRA.

[LESLIE]
It's concerning discussing a new medication I think with your physician at any time, regardless of what that medication is.

[LESLIE]
I had learned that there were clinical trials for HUMIRA on hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), which was exciting for me as somebody with the condition that at least I knew there was research being done.

[LESLIE]
She had brought it up at that point that it was a viable FDA-approved option for my condition.

[LINDA]
He told me the HUMIRA I had to inject myself once a week.

[MARCUS]
The way my dermatologist explained HUMIRA to me is that, it would be a tool to help, but it wasn't going to be a cure-all-end-all.

[LESLIE]
So my dermatologist, she really tries her best to speak at my level. I obviously did not go to medical school or learn Latin.

[MARCUS]
HUMIRA targets and blocks TNF-alpha, an inflammatory protein.

[MARCUS]
What surprised me with the HUMIRA is how quickly it affected me, and in a good way.

[LINDA]
After three months of taking HUMIRA, I definitely see a lot of change on my body. Half of my abscesses and nodules were gone.

[MARCUS]
I didn't have an increase in the number of abscesses or draining fistulas.

[LESLIE]
Keeping my picture log made it obvious what the improvement was to my symptoms. And that was a visual representation of a symptom that I had to live with.

[LINDA]
Having a positive reaction from a doctor actually made me feel very happy with myself because I took that big step, which I was scared to do it. But he really motivated me and he gave me faith. So I was truly happy for that.

[LESLIE]
It's definitely still a condition that I have. I definitely still have symptoms. However, my symptoms have improved.

[LINDA]
It is very important, not just for you but also for your doctor to actually have a conversation.

[MARCUS]
Do your research and see how you feel and if it's an option, I would give it a try.

Safety Considerations
HUMIRA can lower your ability to fight infections, including tuberculosis. Serious, sometimes fatal infections and cancers, including lymphoma, have happened; as have blood, liver, and nervous system problems, serious allergic reactions, and new or worsening heart failure. Before treatment, get tested for TB. Tell your doctor if you’ve been to areas where certain fungal infections are common, and if you’ve had TB, hepatitis B, are prone to infections, or have flu-like symptoms or sores. Don’t start HUMIRA if you have an infection.
