Types of Crohn's Disease
Gastroduodenal Crohn's disease
Gastroduodenal Crohn's disease affects the stomach and duodenum (the top of the small intestine). Symptoms can include loss of appetite, weight loss, nausea, and vomiting.
Crohn's colitis
Crohn's colitis affects only the colon. Symptoms can include diarrhea, rectal bleeding, and complications around the anus.
Jejunoileitis
Jejunoileitis produces patchy areas of inflammation in the jejunum and ileum (parts of the small intestine). Symptoms can include abdominal pain, cramps following meals, and diarrhea.
Ileocolitis
Ileocolitis is the most common form of Crohn's disease, which affects the ileum (small intestine) and colon. Symptoms can include diarrhea, cramping or pain in the right lower part or middle of the abdomen, and weight loss.
Ileitis
Ileitis affects only the ileum; symptoms are similar to the symptoms of ileocolitis.
How severe are your Crohn's symptoms?
You may have symptoms such as:
Frequent diarrhea and/or abdominal pain (but can walk and eat normally)
No signs of:
Dehydration, high fever, abdominal tenderness, painful mass, intestinal obstruction, and/or weight loss of more than 10%
You may have symptoms such as:
Frequent diarrhea, abdominal pain or tenderness, fever, significant weight loss, and significant anemia
Persistent symptoms despite appropriate treatment for moderate to severe Crohn’s, or you may experience:
High fever, persistent vomiting, more severe weight loss, or evidence of intestinal obstruction or abscess (localized infection or collection of pus)
