Actual HUMIRA Patient. Individual results may vary.
I was diagnosed with Crohn's almost 25 years ago. At the time I was very sick and the doctors weren't sure what it was, went through many, many tests to determine, you know, what I had, you know, I was… I had fevers and diarrhea and just a bad stomach in general and it took probably about a year or so before I uh was diagnosed.
After I was diagnosed my, I remember my mother and my father—I guess they were initially relieved at least, knowing what my diagnosis was, and it was just a, a tough road…it was for, for many, many years trying to get the disease under control.
And I uh, I had a re-section and that that put me in remission immediately for a period of ten years. I was off all meds and then I uh I had a flare-up—I wasn't, I didn't recognize at the time that it was a flare-up, but it was a, a stomach issue that didn't go away, and then it was a flare up and my disease was active again.
Whenever I went out I was always worried about what I ate, I was always concerned about where the bathroom was and if I was going somewhere where I would have to sit for a long period of time, I would make certain that I didn't eat anything beforehand so I didn't like going to dinner and then a movie and if I went to a movie I didn't want to sit on the inside I would always sit on the aisle—anywhere I went that had rows I would always want to sit on the aisle 'cause I didn't want to interrupt anybody during the performance…
If I had to go the whole day without eating then I would go the whole day without eating if I had important meetings that I just didn't want to have to jump out of to go to the bathroom.
HUMIRA was approved for Crohn's and I'd say a couple weeks later I got a call from my doctor and he said "Ben we're gonna put you on HUMIRA." I went on HUMIRA and I'm able to give myself injections when I'm supposed to but when I want to—without making an appointment.
And uh the support program, what's best for me is that are these medication reminders so you can get a an email every 2 weeks to remind you to take your drug, because I need all the reminding I can get… so anything helps, but there's a lot of benefits you know to the program and knowledge bases and information that you can obtain.
