Insurance Coverage
How to get affordable access to HUMIRA®
Most Americans have prescription-drug coverage through their health insurance plans,
and the majority of people with prescription-drug coverage have access to HUMIRA.
Insurance re-enrollment: Be sure your plan offers access to HUMIRA
You may have heard the term "open enrollment period." This is your opportunity to
evaluate your health coverage and either change the insurance plan you have with
your current provider—or switch to a new provider altogether. And since your child's treatment
is so important, here are some things you should find out about the coverage of HUMIRA:
- Ask your insurance provider what your cost will be if your child is prescribed HUMIRA.
- If you're considering switching insurance providers, find out what your new plan
covers before you enroll.
- Since specialists such as pediatric rheumatologists are also an important part of
your child's treatment, find out which ones are available through your plan. Do
the same for any other caregivers your child may need, such as physical therapists
or psychologists. Also, find out if your child needs a referral from the child's
primary care physician (PCP) to see a specialist and what that requires.
- You should also consider the many other factors that will impact your choice of
an insurance plan, including premium cost, deductible and other individual and family
medical expenses.
If you are one of the 180 million Americans with prescription-drug coverage, HUMIRA
is probably covered by your plan.
While some insurance plans require you to pay a fixed copay, other insurance plans
cover a percentage of the cost of these medications and require you to pay the rest.
You can find out exactly what percentage your plan covers—and what you are required
to pay— by calling your insurance provider.
