HUMIRA: A Biologic Medication to Treat Moderate to Severe Crohn's Disease

HUMIRA is part of a group of medications called biologics. "Biologic" means that the medication is made from living organisms and their products, such as proteins, genes, and antibodies. Biologic medications are one type of treatment used in the treatment of moderate to severe Crohn's disease.

Crohn's disease is a long-term (chronic) condition that causes inflammation in the gastrointestinal (digestive) tract. While the exact cause of Crohn's is unknown, we do know that people with Crohn's disease have excess levels of a protein called tumor necrosis factor (TNF). This protein causes inflammation and swelling in the gastrointestinal tract. HUMIRA blocks TNF, helping to reduce or stop Crohn's symptoms.

HUMIRA is used to reduce the signs and symptoms of moderate to severe Crohn’s disease in adults who have not responded well to conventional treatments. HUMIRA is also for these adults with moderate to severe Crohn's disease who have lost response to or are unable to tolerate infliximab.
