About HUMIRA®
The abdominal cramps. The fatigue. The frequent trips to the restroom. Crohn's disease symptoms can hit hard and without warning.
Crohn's disease causes chronic gastrointestinal inflammation, which eventually damages the intestine and causes painful, embarrassing symptoms. These symptoms can have a significant impact on your life.
Fight Back With HUMIRA Treatment
The good news is, there have been many recent advances in
treatment options,
including HUMIRA, approved for treatment of moderate to severe Crohn's disease. HUMIRA can help stop many
Crohn's disease symptoms,
including painful abdominal cramps, persistent diarrhea and fatigue, through ongoing therapy. Many people saw a significant difference in their symptoms with HUMIRA in just 4 weeks.
How HUMIRA Works
HUMIRA is part of a class of medications called TNF (tumor necrosis factor) blockers. These medications block TNF,
a protein in your body that can cause inflammation. HUMIRA blocks excess TNF-α in your body which helps reduce the inflammation
that too much TNF-α can cause.
Proven Effective
Results from clinical trials (also called studies) have shown that the TNF blocker HUMIRA may reduce or help stop symptoms, and help keep symptoms from returning with continued therapy.
In clinical trials of adult patients with moderate to severe Crohn's disease, HUMIRA:
- Was shown to reduce or help stop many Crohn's symptoms, including painful abdominal cramps, persistent diarrhea and fatigue
- Helped patients achieve remission (stopped flare-ups for long periods of time) - in a clinical trial, 3 times as many patients experienced remission at 56 weeks vs. placebo
HUMIRA can work for people with Crohn's who have stopped responding to other medications, including REMICADE® (infliximab).
The History of HUMIRA
- HUMIRA has been studied for more than 10 years in clinical trials beginning in 1997 with rheumatoid arthritis and was first approved to treat adults with moderate-to-severe rheumatoid arthritis in 2002.
- HUMIRA is also approved for treating adults with active psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and chronic plaque psoriasis.
- Over 250,000 people worldwide are currently being treated with HUMIRA.
